I just purchased a Bambu Lab X1C. After printing planes on my Anycubic Vyper there is just no comparison in so many categories. I'm glad I started with a simple "bed slinger" because I learned a lot, but this new printer X1C is taking my quality of prints to a new level. And the AMS Filament System is a great add as well.
Having said that I will continue to add to this thread as I learn things while splicing and printing using Bambu Studio. I hated it at first, but I love it now for its ability to organize the parts onto plates and projects -- so much easy to make changes and keep track of things.
On a sidenote, I've been watching Troy's models for quite awhile and I finally dove in with the DC-6. I started by printing the fuselage. I'm printing with Giant Arm Silk Metallic PLA which Amazon has on sale right now for $18/roll. The stuff prints flawlessly. I'll post some pics later.
However, one of the first hiccups I hit printing the fuselage parts was that I couldn't get the firewall ring to print on the bottom of each print. I could only print it totally closed off or totally open ended. So, I was just adding the 4 bottom layers and figured I'd cut them out later with a hot knife. This was fine until I got to the Nacelles. I needed the bottom layer to print starting at the 2nd layer so that it left the cooling path and ESC slot open. How to keep it from printing the first bottom layer (which would have been great when I printed the fuselage parts because it would have left the 15-20mm ring without having to cut out the middle)? And just to be clear I still wanted the bottom layer to print but with no infill. Well, in Cura and other slicers they have the parameter "Initial Bottom Layer" which Troy was able to set to zero, but Bambu Studio doesn't have the same parameter.
My solution which worked perfectly is to add a "Height Modifier" for the 0 to 0.15mm level and set the bottom layers to zero in the strength tab (under the modifier only). Leave 4 bottom layers printing in the overall part. It works perfectly.
If you want to know more about using Modifiers in Bambu Studio. I suggest you watch this Youtube that is well worth your time.
Again, I'll post more of my findings but it's late for now. I'll post pics and screenshots another time.
Cheers,
Todd
